GETTING TO THE BOTTOM OF THINGS



Divide the group into six smaller groups and assign each group one of the words listed below. Read the story. After each of the words is read pause for the group to make the appropriate response.

There once lived way down at the bottom of the SEA ___, a friendly little FISH ___ named Finny FISH ___. Now this little FISH ___ who way down at the bottom of the SEA ___ and who was named Finny FISH ___had a lot of FRIENDS ___ among the other FISH ___. In fact, down at the bottom of the SEA ___ all the FISH ___ were Finny's FRIENDS ___. She even had some FRIENDS ___ at the bottom of the SEA ___ who were not FISH ___.

One of these FRIENDS ___ who lived at the bottom of the SEA ___ and was not a FISH ___, was Sam SEA HORSE ___. Finny's FRIEND ___, Sam SEA HORSE ___, liked living at the bottom of the SEA ___ with the other FISH ___ except that the other FISH ___ would not be FRIENDS ___ with Sam SEA HORSE ___.

Finny FISH ___ said that she didn't care if Sam SEA HORSE ___ didn't look like her other FISH ___ FRIENDS ___. And this is how a beautiful friendship started at the bottom of the SEA ___ between Finny FISH ___ and Sam SEA HORSE ___.

There were many a DIVER ___ who came to the bottom of the SEA ___ to hunt for sunken TREASURE ___. Now Finny FISH ___ and Sam SEA HORSE ___ knew the bottom of the SEA ___ well and they had seen a TREASURE ___ chest many times while playing among the seaweed and plants at the bottom of the SEA ___.

Finny FISH ___ and Sam SEA HORSE ___ hadn't told anyone about the TREASURE ___ chest for it was their own private hiding place. Finny FISH ___ and Sam SEA HORSE ___ had many hours of fun at the bottom of the SEA ___ playing hide and seek and Finny FISH'S ___ favorite place to hide was in the TREASURE ___ chest. This made it hard for Sam SEA HORSE ___ to find her because Finny FISH ___ was so shiny that she glittered just like the Gold pieces in the TREASURE ___ chest.

One day while Finny FISH ___ and San SEA HORSE ___ were playing their usual hide and seek game at the bottom of the SEA ___, all of Finny FISH ___'s FRIENDS ___ came swimming up with a warning that a DIVER ___ was coming down to the bottom of the SEA ___ to look for the TREASURE ___ chest.

Just as the DIVER ___ came down to the bottom of the SEA ___ looking for the TREASURE ___, all the FISH ___ FRIENDS ___ swam away to hide from the DIVER ___ who was hunting TREASURE ___.

Sam SEA HORSE ___ was the last one to leave because he didn't see Finny FISH ___ in the group of FRIENDS ___ and he was beginning to worry about Finny FISH ___. Just as the DIVER ___ was about to reach the TREASURE ___ chest, he saw what he thought was a Gold piece fall out of the TREASURE ___ chest and land on the bottom of the SEA ___. The DIVER ___ was so greedy that he reached for it only to have it swim speedily away. For it was only Finny FISH ___ and not a Gold piece at all! But when the DIVER ___ had reached, he had pulled off his face mask and had to surface without the TREASURE ___ chest form the bottom of the SEA ___.

All the FISH ___ FRIENDS ___ at the bottom of the SEA ___ were so happy that Finny FISH ___ got safely away from the DIVER ___ and Sam SEA HORSE ___ was especially happy because what really happened that day at the bottom of the SEA ___ was seen by all the FISH ___ FRIENDS ___. They knew now that Sam SEA HORSE ___ was really a FISH ___'s best FRIEND ___ and from then on they were always be his FRIENDS ___. Sam SEA HORSE ___ had saved Finny FISH ___. They learned that "A FRIEND ___ in Need Is a FRIEND ___ Indeed.
