THE SURPRISE
Divide the group into five smaller groups and assign each group one of the words listed below. Read the story. After each of the words is read pause for the group to make the appropriate response.
| GORILLA | "Oowa, oowa, oowa" |
| TIGER | "Growlllllllllllllllll" |
| LAUGHING HYENA | "Heeeee Heeeeee Heeeee" |
| JUNGLE JIM | "Me, Jungle Jim" |
| SNAKES | "Sssssssssssssssss" |
| ANIMALS | (all make animal sounds) |
The ANIMALS___ of the jungle had a meeting one special day.
The GORILLA___ who was in charge of this had something important to say.
The SNAKES___ who usually crawled around, sat especially still.
For they wanted to hear what was going on up on Jungle Hill.
Seeba, the TIGER___ had arrived early at dawn.
And he was terribly upset 'cause he didn't know what was going on.
But the elephants and the lions thought perhaps this was about JUNGLE JIM___ .
For it had been six days now since any ANIMALS___ had seen him.
Now, you understand, growled the TIGER___ that we're here to prowl.
And find out where JUNGLE JIM___ is he said with a terrible gowl.
The LAUGHING HYENA___ , and Seeba, the TIGER___ , and the SNAKES___ thought about their homes.
For months ago, when the FIRE came, there was no where for them to roam.
If it hadn't been for JUNGLE JIM___ , they wouldn't be able to live.
For he'd brought tiny trees and shrubs and to help the ANIMALS___ did give.
JUNGLE JIM___ cleared the jungle and worked both day and night.
And it wasn't too long before the ANIMALS___ saw grass and trees growing to their delight.
The ANIMALS___ remembered a she-human who was very, very fat.
Working hard, side by side, with their friend JUNGLE JIM___ what do you think about that?
The ANIMALS___ knew this she-human lived with him up on Jungle Hill,
But why, asked the ANIMALS___ were things so very, very still?
And so it was decided, the ANIMALS___ would venture that night,
To jungle hill and see if they could tell if things were right.
The ANIMALS___ crept carefully to the window open wide
And carefully, with caution, peeked to see what was inside.
The SNAKES___ , the TIGER___ , the GORILLA___ . And the hyena---too,
Saw a sight, so strange, that night-they couldn't believe it true!!
There sat JUNGLE JIM___ holding TWO HUMAN BABY CUBS, what a sight.
The ANIMALS___ smiled, and watched the sight, "The Surprise" they discovered that night!
