A FRONTIER THANKSGIVING
Divide the group into eight smaller groups and assign each group one of the words listed below. Read the story. After each of the words is read pause for the group to make the appropriate response.

| DOG(s) | "Man's best friend." |
| TURKEY | "Yum, yum!' |
| CABIN | "Shut the door!" |
| FRONTIER | "Way out west" |
| INDIAN | "Geronimo!" |
| THANKSGIVING | Everyone pats tummy. |
Early one THANKSGIVING____ morning, many years ago on the old FRONTIER____, a SETTLER____ stood before his lonely CABIN____ with his trusty GUN____ and faithful DOG____ ready to hunt the TURKEY____ he needed for dinner, hoping no INDIAN____s would spoil his feast. Whistling to his DOG____, the SETTLER____ shouldered his GUN____ and started down the forest trail.
Meantime, the INDIAN____, also with a DOG____, came down the forest trail from the other direction. Just at that moment a fat TURKEY____ flew between them. Out flew an arrow, off went the GUN____, down fell the TURKEY____, in bounded the DOG____s, up rushed the INDIAN____ and the SETTLER____. "It's mine," claimed the SETTLER____.
"Ugh - him mine," said the INDIAN____. "Grrr," snarled the DOGS____. The noise of the argument shook the CABIN____ and awoke the whole FRONTIER____. But the TURKEY____, which was only stunned, took off unsteadily and flew in the open door of the CABIN____, where it was promptly captured by the INDIAN____ and the SETTLER____ and the DOG____s. And thus, THANKSGIVING____ came to a lonely CABIN____ on the old FRONTIER____.
